On November 11, 2018, while researching the name Fred Koester, which is listed on the
Original Wall Unit
at Hackensack High School of those men who served during World War II.

George Toriello found information on both Fred Koester, Jr. serving in World War II and also his father Fred Koester, Sr. serving in the Navy during World War I. Fred E. Koester’s name is listed on the
Honor Roll List
which was in the Evening Record newspaper on October 5, 1918.

Frederick E. Koester, Sr. is buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Hackensack and the grave marker states that he was born on May 10, 1887 and served in the Navy from 1917 to 1919 during
World War I

Frederick E. Koester, Sr. passed away on July 20, 1943 which may be why his son, Frederick Koester, Jr., was released from service in June of 1943 to financially support the family.

I will see if I can locate their grave markers at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Hackensack, but there is not always someone there to help as in years passed.
